First Day and Night at Home

After we got home, we ate lunch and I fed Logan. Again, he is a pro at the whole breastfeeding thing! Such an answer to prayer.

We had a relaxing afternoon and did a lot of this....

Big sister holding....

Baby kisses....

Being excited that Logan was finally here...

And baby snuggles.

When Lyla was born we did a big dinner with family at our house the night we came home from the hospital with her. Might sound kinda stressful to some, just delivering a baby and all, going on not a lot of sleep, and just getting back home. But in fact it was the opposite for me. I loved having everyone there. I was in my own home, so I could be super comfy and just relax, and everyone else did the set-up, cooking and clean up!! Super easy! So I knew for sure that I would want everyone to come over for dinner when we came home from the hospital this time. My parents and Allison and Dan came over later in the afternoon. We enjoyed dinner with everyone and just relaxed and got lots of sweet baby snuggles.

Donna and Steve were staying at our house and we decided to have them stay until Monday. Adam took off the week after Logan was born (he actually ended up going back to work on Friday...which I was not aware of until the day before and I was not super happy about it...) but we knew we wanted that first week to just be about the four of us getting adjusted. I know some people like having other people there to help out, especially over night and with the other kids, but that is not me at all. I actually do better with just Adam. I like it to be just the two of us, so that we can enjoy the time and get it figured out....no matter how sleep deprived we might be....I just feel more comfortable that way. I mean recovering postpartum and nursing every 1-3 hours, you just want to feel comfortable and for me, that is just with my husband and my kids. Plus, Adam had to go back to work, so we wanted to make sure he got as much time with Logan as possible that week!

Our first night we were up a lot of course. Logan so far seems to be a pretty easy going baby, but definitely has his "fussy" time in the middle of the night. No fun for anyone!! He just could not get comfortable and did not like being in a wet diaper for even a second. Poor circumcision! I had also decided that I was going to follow the rules this time and have him sleep on his back. I know. I know. Not trying to start any kind of debate here. I know what the research says. I am a baby nurse for goodness sakes. But for us with Lyla, tummy sleeping worked much better. We loved Dr Denmark and her book. We slept Lyla on her tummy from night one. With Logan, I knew that the incidence of SIDS was higher with boys, so I wanted to try and be good and sleep him on his back. Lyla also loved being swaddled. She LOVED those Summer Infant Swaddle Wraps. They were awesome!!

Well, we found out VERY quickly that God gave us two very different children. Which is GREAT! I mean I love that they have their own little personalities and that they know what they like right from the start. It just gave us a little learning curve for Logan. We realized that first week, very quickly (and thank goodness for an in-tune husband, because he is the one who recognized the cues) that Logan did NOT like being swaddled to sleep and that he did NOT like sleeping on his back. So there you have it. Our second born sleeps un-swaddled and on his tummy. And he is happy. So we are happy.

We spent lots of time in the morning with more snuggles and baby love. Love waking up with a new baby in the house!! And Lyla was still just as in love!

Ahhh! Love the way she is looking at him!

Big sister and little brother.

Sweet baby boy.
These sweet baby cheeks in the morning make all the crying during the night so worth it!

Big sister love.

She is totally a baby hog!! The first time around it was the grandparents....this time around we have to pry him out of his big sister's arms to get any sort of time with him! I love it. I hope she always feels this love for him and has this strong of a bond with her brother.

Our first morning at home as a family of four.

Love that baby boy!!

PawPaw getting some baby snuggles before getting on the road.

Taking a nap...at least some one is getting some sleep...

I mean, I could just eat him up.

Family nap time!

I think we all are a little tired. Newborns are no joke!

Haha. I love this!

I think after these pictures were taken, she actually looks up at me and says "I have my baby brudder now I need a baby sister!". Might have to wait awhile on that one sister....

I am so glad they have each other to grow up with.

These two melt my heart for real. I am so lucky to be their mom. I feel so overwhelmed with these wonderful blessings.

Going Home!

Sunday was just the three of us, which was SO nice. I love having visitors, don't get me wrong, but there is just something so nice about it being just Logan, Adam and I. Adam went and got us breakfast and I was able to get ready for the day.

Our night shift nurse had gone through ALL of the discharge instructions with us and given us everything so that we would not have to worry about it in the morning. What an awesome nurse to get to follow!!! There are not many like that and it was SO nice of her to get all of that done for our dayshift nurse. Other patients probably would have thought nothing of that, but having worked in a hospital, when the nurse before you gets everything done, well that is like a breath of fresh air starting your shift!

The audiologist came and did Logan's hearing screen, which he passed no problem.

Lactation also came in for an appointment. Surprisingly, I never saw them with Lyla. Only one of my nurse friends who was a lactation consultant at the time stopped by just to check on us, which was nice. This time however, since I had had a breast biopsy back in 2012, they wanted to see me to make sure everything was going well. Logan was in the nursery when they came, so they actually did not even do a full consult. I told them everything was going well and she just gave me some helpful tips and reminders.

We got all of our stuff packed up and Adam took everything out to the car. He brought in the car seat and we were ready to go!

Unfortunately, we were still waiting on the pediatrician to see Logan and write his discharge order. My midwife had already discharged me. It was just such a different experience from last time because literally Dr Knox would come by at 5am to see his babies...and come in your room and WAKE you up to give you an update. I love Dr Knox, but it is just funny getting woken up by him. And he is SOOOO loud. He just has a loud booming voice. Dr Pip on the other hand took his time. I understand it was the weekend and everyone wants to sleep in, so it was mid morning, close to lunch, by the time he came by. He was so super great too. I really liked him and would totally see him if we were not able to get in with Dr Knox at some point. I love that about our office though. I have only ever seen Dr Knox (minus the 1st newborn visit where you have to see the NP).

Dr Pip came in and said he looked great and could go home! Yay!

He had already passed his pulse ox test as well in the newborn nursery.

Our sweet boy was ready to go home!! I still cannot get over all his hair and how DARK it is!

So happy to bring this little one home.

So thankful he is healthy, eating well and here!! We have waited so long to meet him and now we feel like he has never not been a part of our family.

Looks so tiny in his car seat!!

We left at lunchtime and picked up lunch at Jersey Mike's on our way home. Ummmm it took Adam over 30 minutes to get our food!!!! I could not believe how long it took him!! I guess their credit card machine broke or something and they were having to do everything by hand. I was SO ready to get home. Logan just slept the whole time. Oh the life of a baby!

When we got home, our sweet neighbors had decorated our driveway. I wish I had thought to take a picture of it. They also put a baby boy sign in our yard. It was SO sweet and SO thoughtful. We love our neighbors. Lyla and Honey had made a sign for the back door welcoming us home also. So sweet. She was so excited for Logan to finally be home! Of course the first thing she asked to do was hold her baby brother.
