Dear Lyla, You Continually Melt my Heart

Lyla,
You melt my heart in the sweetest ways EVERY DAY! It starts first thing in the morning and continues right up until I put you to sleep. You always have the biggest smile on your face when I walk to your room in the morning. I wish I could wake up half as happy as you do in the morning. No matter how tired I am, your smile makes the morning SO worth it. As I am changing your diaper after we get up, you chatter away, as if you are telling me about the far away places you traveled to in your dreams. I love listening to everything you have to say. Then, since you are still nursing, our routine is to get back in mommy and daddy's bed to nurse and snuggle as we continue waking up. I love this time and will miss it. I love the way you always get so excited as we walk back in my room because you are so excited to see your daddy (and wake him up). I know during the week you are always so disappointed to see him not there, but it makes us look even more forward to the weekends.

Throughout the day your giggles, your squeals of delight, you beautiful big blue eyes that light up when you are excited or find something new, are all the things I want to remember in my heart forever. They make me fall in love with you more (like I could love you any more?!) and my heart just swells with joy. I have to say though my absolute FAVORITE right now is how multiple times a day, whether we are playing on the floor, I am carrying you, or we are busy doing chores, you frequently stop what ever you are doing, crawl over, climb up in my lap (or pull at my legs for me to pick you up), wrap your little arms around my neck and hug me so tight. Sometimes (most of the time) you give me a kiss to go along with it. In that moment I stop what I am doing and relish in your little hug. I never know how long it will last, most of the time it is just a few seconds, but it fills my heart with so much love. You are really not snuggly by personality, so when you do this it makes my heart melt. You are a strong, independent little girl, which I love about you, but you also have a quiet sweetness to you. These hugs make me smile because while they feel so quick and innocent, it too is almost like you have them well thought out and needed a mommy minute. Maybe they are just for me, like you feel like I needed a hug in that moment, or maybe they are for you and you felt like you needed some love. Whatever the reason I will always be ready for love from my little girl. I pray there is never a moment where you feel I am too busy for you or I have not given you enough attention. I treasure these sweet hugs.

Bedtime is a sweet time too. I will also miss it when we stop nursing during this time, but am excited because I think it will be some sweet times with daddy. We read our books and say our prayers. Sometimes you fall asleep before we are done and sometimes you are wide awake still. But that moment right before I get up to put you in bed, once again you wrap those little arms around my neck and snuggle into my chest. It never lasts long, maybe 10-15 seconds, but I breathe in the smell of your sweet baby-shampooed hair, feel each little breath that you take, the warmth of your footy-pajamaed body on me and just melt. Please Lord, help me to remember these sweet moments forever.

Beach Pictures...Finally

I have two beach trips to blog about. We went with my family to Hilton Head the end of July and the beginning of August. Lyla turned 9 months while we were there. Then, we headed back to Hilton Head with Adam's family over Labor Day. Lyla turned 10 months while we were there. We also celebrated Adam turning 30 on September 4th with his family.

Beach-time. But spent most of our time at the pool.

Loves her dad. The best part of vacation? The fact that we got an entire week with Adam.

Love that girl.

Being silly.

Beach bunny.

Wonderful Aunts. Glad to have gotten to spend the entire week with them.

Enjoyed our morning walks everyday.

Even helped dad with a project!

Adam is VERY handy. He has done lots of projects and I am so thankful to have a husband who knows what he is doing. My mom wanted some shelves built and this is what he built while we were at the beach! It is now painted red and looks great!

Love my family.

Sweet girl who is growing up too fast.

Thanks for sharing your condo with us!

Lyla loves her time with her Aunts. I am so thankful she has them as a part of her life.

Even Uncle Dan got to come after a long week at work. His first "official" family vacation.

Love this picture.

We did the usual beach things. Walks in the morning, beach, pool, cooking out, shopping at the outlets and lots of family game playing. The weather was great and there were lots of laughs! I love these memories with my family and I love that Lyla will have them as well.

More to come with our beach vacation with Adam's family.

8 Month Pictures

I just wanted to add a post of some pictures of Lyla at 8 months. She is so busy and growing so fast. I really need to sort through all my pictures and organize them as her one year is quickly approaching. I cannot believe it!
Always a smiley girl.

LOVES to eat. This is a snack she found in her bag....right after breakfast!
Looking outside. She has figured out how to escape out the screen door. She loves to be outside and explore.

Ready to go! She is always ready to go anywhere!

Being silly!

Loves helping with the dishwasher. Any time she hears it open, she crawls as fast as she can over to it.

Looking pretty in a dress that Adam's grandmother got her.

I love letting her crawl and play naked. I think it's so cute.

There will not be many days of her wanted to play naked, so I am soaking it up.

Keeping Busy

Lyla is a busy girl that never slows down. She is constantly moving and on the look out for what she can do next....or put in her mouth next. She loves to get into the cabinets and drawers and pull things out. These pictures are taken by my other camera so the quality is not as good. Still waiting to get my other camera back.

I love watching her learn and discover new things everyday. She is so smart and I fall more and more in love with her each day. I always say that each stage is my favorite and I want to hit the pause button. She is growing too fast and I really love the stage she is in now. She is such a JOY!

9 Months!

Well, actually Lyla is 9 and 1/2 months at this point. I am a little behind in my blogging which just means we have been super busy enjoying these last days of summer. Lyla and I went to her nine month pediatrician appointment last week and she checked out perfectly. She weighed 17lbs 9ozs (25-50%), her length was 27 3/4in (50-75%), and her head circumference was 44.5cm (50-75%). If she was barely on the charts before, she is definitely on them now! She did not have to get any shots, which was nice for both her and I. She had a CBC and everything looked great.

My camera is in the shop, it won't upload my pictures to the computer, so no pictures unfortunately during this blog. I will upload them as soon as we get it back, because there is lots to see. August has been busy so far. We started it off with a week long vacation to Hilton Head with my family a few weeks ago. It was so nice to get away again with Adam. We love it when he is off and has time to spend with us! The weather was hot but hey, it's the beach! Lyla had so much fun swimming at the pool and playing on the beach under the umbrella. We took lots of walks and spent lots of time outside. We went to Harbor Town and the outlets. It was fun to be there with Aunt Allison and Aunt Sarah, Mimi and Gramps, and Nana and my Uncle Fred. Uncle Dan had to come a little later in the week, but was able to jump right in and join in on the fun.

This last weekend we had some special friends come in town and meet Lyla for the first time! It was SO great to see them and get to spend time with them. Andrew and Gray are living in Jackson, Mississippi while Andrew does his residency in med/peds. Andrew and Adam lived together in college and they are some of our best friends. We are hoping they will come back to GA after they finish up. Or atleast be a little closer than they are now! We had not seen them since last June, so they had never officially met Lyla. Of course she loved them and they loved her. I am so glad they were finally able to see her. I know they will always be in our lives and hers and they will be special to her, just like they are to us. After all Lyla and Gray do share a name :) Not only did they come in to meet Lyla, but they also came in to help us celebrate Adam's birthday. He has the big 3-0 coming up September 4th and I thought it would be fun to throw him a surprise dinner with some family and friends. He had no idea and was so surprised. It was so much fun to share that special time with everyone.

Lyla is still a busy girl. The week before we went to the beach she started saying "Mama", which melts my heart everytime she says it. So now her words are up to two. Mama and Dada. Of course she is more vocal than that and talks non-stop. She gets louder by the day and I just love it. I am so enjoying being home with her and cannot imagine not being here to experience her changing everyday. She is all over the place. She crawls everywhere and just follows me around. She stands up and moves around furniture. She has, several times now, either let go of the furniture, to stand by herself or just stands up on her own. If she thinks about it too much she just sits right back down, not being sure what to do next, but there have been several occasions where without realizing it, she just stands by herself. I love it, but it makes me realize she will be walking soon and is growing up too fast. Her favorite things right now are, cell phones, car keys, wallets, helping load/unload the dishwasher, being in the fridge or the freezer and pulling things out of cabinets, baskets and drawers. She knows how to hold the phone up to her ear. She pulls up on our legs and then reaches up for us to pick her up. I love that! She still only has two teeth. She eats anything and everything. More finger foods now than baby food, which is fun and I have to think more through her meals and what I am feeding her now. It is fun that she is eating big girl food. Her favorite is cheese. Anything with cheese or that has cheese on it, or just plain cheese. She loves it. We can take her out to places and she actually likes to eat what we are having. She drinks through a straw now and I have started the weaning process with her nursing. That is sad but at the same time will be great to be done. She is down to three times a day. Adam and I can get her to REALLY belly laugh and it is great. Those are the moments I feel like a real family and the moments I want to remember forever. I need to get it on video. She still takes two naps a day. She loves pointing to different parts of our face and learning the names. Her favorite is our tongues. She loves it when she can stick her finger in our mouth and she can feel it. She just laughs and laughs. She has found our belly buttons too and thinks those are interesting. We brush her teeth now. She loves anything to do with big kids. Playing with them, watching them, smiling at them and waving. She waves at EVERYBODY! It is cute to watch. She is always blowing raspberries and loves to give us kisses. I love her kisses and will NEVER get tired of them. I can tell her to go get something or go somewhere (her highchair, her room etc) and for the most part she does. I am finally feeling she is understanding what I am saying, which is a new world.

I know this is long and no fun without pictures, but I want to make sure I get her milestones down before I forget. It goes so quickly and everything is so hard to remember. My favorite time with her right now is either right when she gets up, either first thing in the morning or after her naps, because she is so happy to see me and has the sweetest smile on her face. I also enjoy night time. When she is all clean and smelling like a sweet baby after her bath and she is snuggled up in her jammies with the feet on them. I nurse her and read her her books. We normally read a story, her devotional, and then "Good Night Moon". Then I pray over her and with her and give her kisses. She normally falls asleep in my arms and it is the one time of day I can just hold her and snuggle with her while she is asleep. I know this won't last long and I LOVE this time. She sleeps 12 hours at night and goes to sleep around 7-7:30pm.

We have one more beach vacation with Adam's family before summer is officially over. I will post pictures when my camera gets back.

First Word

Well, Lyla has always been vocal, but now she is making it a little bit easier for us to understand her! She has officially spoken her first word. She said it at the beginning of last week and I was afraid she would not say it again once Adam come home. Luckily I was able to catch it on video camera. But no worries, she says it ALL the time! Her first word is....

This girl talks all the time and I am sure a mouthful of others words are not far behind. Adam says he has heard her say 'mama', but I have yet to hear it. She also likes the 's' sound. She tries to copy me when I say 'yes', 'ice' and 'juice'. I know ice and juice are not the 's' sound, but it sounds like it to her. She has two teeth at this point, but I think she might be getting another one because she is drooling like crazy and she is gnawing on everything. She has also started waving. She will wave hello and bye. She will also wave just to wave....and she does it to everything. It is so cute. She waves to people, our cat, her toys, the tv, anything you name it! She is on the move all the time. She is such a fast crawler and follows me all over the house. She is pulling up on everything and would really love to walk. Don't get me wrong though, she still loves to be carried, or 'up'. She is such a big helper, she loves to be doing anything that I am doing and she is in to everything. She is still so easy going and happy with most anything. Her favorites right now are the cell phone, the car keys and my wallet.
We have started finger foods and she wants to do it herself. She can eat cut up bananas, cheese, hot dogs, blueberries, cottage cheese, watermelon, and I cannot forget the puffs! We will try some veggies this week cut up and see how she does.
We are enjoying the summer, I wish it wasn't so hot so we could enjoy being outside a little more, but we have instead been enjoying hanging out with good friends and finding new places to go.

Just playing.

Wearing the dress Uncle J and Aunt Kara brought her back from their honeymoon in Mexico.

Enjoying her Puffs in the car. She was able to get it open herself and by the end of the car ride they were all over her.

Her new sandals.

Lyla's first Dunwoody 4th of July Parade with Aunt Allison.

Our family at the Dunwoody 4th of July Parade.

Lyla's best friend Eva. She came over on 4th of July to play games and fall asleep. Their first "sleep over" together.

They even got to take a bath together! Lyla wondering"Eva what are you doing in the baby bath?"

We still have two vacations to look forward to before the summer comes to an end which will be nice. For now, I am just enjoying every minute with Lyla. I know I say it a lot, but time is just going by too fast. I want to hit the pause button and stay in these moments. I am enjoying learning from her and seeing her discover the world. I never thought, before having a child, all the things I would be responsible for teaching her. Such a big job! But she is helping me learn and I think we are doing a pretty good job.

Three Years

Three years ago today I married the love of my life. I could not have dreamed up a better husband and best friend. God has blessed us so much in our friendship, our marriage and our life together. I did nothing to deserve him, but am so thankful that God picked him out for me! I love you Adam and cannot wait for many more years together!

Can't wait to see what each new day holds! I wouldn't want to spend my days with anyone else!
